psalm 147:10-11

His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his delight in the legs of a man;

the LORD delights in those who honor Him,
who put their hope in his unfailing Love.

Success!

So we had the Gold Star Run to Honor this past weekend. It was for the memory and honor of SPC Jared Raymond. KIA in Iraq in 2007. He was a local Swampscott kid who enlisted after 9/11. While serving his country he lost his life. A few years ago his mother had organize a road race in his honor. This past year a friend asked if I could help. I went to B n S Fitness to see if they could be the race directors. They did an outstanding job with the production of the event.

The weather couldn't have been better, low 60's sunny and lots of people. there were well over 225 people racing including my wife and 2 boys. I pushed the jog stroller while my brother pushed his 2 girls and we were gluttonous by registering for he 10 K. the course was a little long and challenging. Also running was a good group of fellow officers from the Swampscott Police Dept. I was excited that so many guys were ready to do this. It was great representation for local kid who deserved the attention for the day.

When all was said and done, 3rd Overall and 1st for Military/Police with a time of 42:57.

Going Aero

So I put an aero disc cover on my rear Flashpoint 60 w/ powertap this week. I had been researching this for a little bit and a friend of mine had used this product from wheelbuilder for years with some great success so I decided to throw out the 90 bucks and get one. Assembly was very easy and after reading a few reviews it was also recommended to use electrical tape along the edge to help secure the cover to the rim, which I did.
After a nice one hour ride I could see the benefits of a disc. I was able to use a Zipp disc at Lake Placid in 2008 but I didn't think I was able to obtain the full benefit of it because of the rain for the entire bike segment of the IM. So using a version of the aerodynamic benefits on a moderately windy day seemed to show how much the disc can add speed to the bike. I do have to have the rear derailleur adjusted to prevent rubbing when I slide into the top ring of the rear cog. Otherwise I think this is a wise investment. I will give some more info on it as it comes in.
